Take the shortcuts in order to take advantage of a pleasant day at the foot of one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the whole of North Africa.
On leaving Marrakech, the Ouzoud Waterfalls are natural marvels that are not to be taken for granted. Indeed, they are reached by a journey of more than 150 Km, i.e. around 2hr30, which uses several shortcuts. Nevertheless, the most famous waterfalls in Morocco are worth the trip. Approximately 110 metres high, its waters rebound on several landings and throw fine drops into the air. The waterfalls are therefore almost constantly surrounded by a beautiful rainbow.
In order to take full advantage of the charms of the Ouzoud waterfalls, it is best to devote a whole day there (return journey included)
On arrival in Ouzoud, there are several small cheap restaurants providing excellent traditional Moroccan dishes, souvenir stalls or a small hotel offer. However it is easy to go past them without being too harassed, and to start to head towards the long-expected sesame by following a well-laid path, lined with olive trees. On arrival at the foot of the waterfalls, visitors can devote themselves to the joys of sunbathing, enjoy a meal at the water’s edge, or simply sip mint tea while watching the fun and games played by the Macaques Rhesus (desert monkeys).
Visitors who are not tempted by bathing can cross the river by using the wooden bridge, or for a few dirhams, one of the small boats named with humour "France", “Phocéa” or “Titanic”. There are several walking possibilities. In particular, visitors can go to the Ouzoud springs located around 6 Km away, by crossing an olive grove over 1 to 2 km before going past a former oil press. On arrival at the springs, the cool and limpid waters will entice visitors to change into their swimwear and throw themselves in.
How to get there ?
The journey from Marrakech to the Ouzoud falls takes close to 2 hours 30 for a 170 km drive. From Marrakech take the road towards FEZ for 60 km and turn right towards the city of AZILAL (road S 508). 20 km before AZILAL, turn left towards OUZOUD.
