Since the start of 2005, it is possible to discover the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, the Haouz region or the Lalla Takerkoust dam from a two-seater ULM (ultra-light aircraft). Led by two professional ULM instructor-pilots, Christophe Calmon and Marc Massing, the company ULM Marrakech offers both discovery flights (first-flights) and introductions to ULM piloting in the Marrakech region.

ULM (Ultra-Light Aircraft) is an air and sports activity that has experienced considerable success in Europe and in the United States. "We have chosen pendular ULMs, as they give people a real sensation of flying," confides Christophe Calmon, one of the pioneers of this activity in Morocco. These Ultra-lights are wheeled hang-gliders with an engine. "The characteristics of these machines are particularly adapted to tourist flights. Our passengers don’t have portholes separating them from the landscape, and so they have an incomparable cinemascopic visibility," he adds. Although extremely light (150kg), these planes meet with strict safety standards that guarantee the safety of both the instructor and the passenger.

ULM Marrakech offers various options for flights in order to adapt to all requests and all budgets. The first option, the discovery flight, starts at 750 DH. It consists in a twenty-minute flight (25 Km) at 300 to 500 metres above the ground. Fanatics of fun and thrills may opt for longer options, the great flight is a 30-minute flight where the passenger discovers the thrills of a pendular ULM while contemplating the wonderful landscape and picturesque villages of Al Haouz. Finally, ULM Marrakech proposes an exceptional private flight of 60 minutes, the exceptional flight, which aims at enabling the passenger to experience an outstanding adventure. This flight enables to discover the grandiose landscapes of the Atlas Mountains, the villages of the AL Haouz plateau and the Lalla Takerkoust lake and surroundings. "For all of these options, we propose tandem flights. Our two ULM fly next to each other, which enables couples to share the same experience simultaneously," Christophe Calmon explains.

Discovery flights may be subscribed alone but may also be an integral part of the “great flight” and “exceptional flight” if the passenger prefers. In addition to the pleasure of flying, the passenger discovers the basic principles of piloting a pendular ULM. After training and a demonstration by the instructor-pilot, the passenger takes the double commands of the craft and pilots the ULM himself. Of course, as in driving schools, the instructor can take over at any time, in order to ensure the safety of the crew.
